Book Sale! Hardcover and Paperback Contemporary Fiction! (And some older titles, too!)

If you like to read contemporary fiction and/or romance, do we have a deal for you!

We have a couple of thousand or more of the latest in contemporary fiction – as well as lots of older romance – in hardcover, trade paperback and mass market paperback.

The pictures here show only the mass market paperbacks… they’re mostly in large banana boxes you’ll want to dig through.  The trade paperback sized fiction titles are also in boxes.
The hardcovers are mostly all shelved… just not sorted very well yet so we’re waiting before posting pictures… which will be coming soon!

These titles are part of a large lot of 5,000 books we just got in and have been added to our Big Wonderful Book Sale at Papa’s Thrift Shop (part of Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps) that’s going on now through the end of May!

Condition:  Nearly all of the hardcovers and trade paperbacks are in like-new condition.

Price:  During this sale (and only for the books at Papa’s Thrift Shop, 5 Park Street in Lewiston) pricing is as follows:

Hardcovers are $1.75 each, or five for $7.00 (that’s buy 4, get one free) and ten for $12.25 (that’s buy 10, get 3 free!).  Buy twenty and get 7 free (that’ll cost you just $22.35!)

After the sale, hardcovers at Papa’s will be $1.95 each, or five for $7.95.  Hardcovers at Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps are individually priced.

Trade paperbacks are $1.25 each, or five for $5.00, 10 for $8.75, and twenty for $16.25!

After the sale, trade paperbacks at Papa’s will be $1.50 each, or five for $6.00.  Trade paperbacks at Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps are individually priced.

Mass market paperbacks are 35c each, or four for a dollar.  Buy 10 for just S2.25 and 20 for $4.00!

After the sale, mass markets at Papa’s will be 50c each or three for a dollar.  Mass markets at Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps are individually priced.

Feel free to bring your own large grocery shopping bags to carry away your new library!

The books sold at Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps tend to be harder to find and some may be more expensive (especially the military, aviation, engineering and new books by local authors), but they are definitely worth the price!

All of our books are less expensive than you’d pay on Amazon (no shipping costs if you come browse and buy in person), especially with that site’s new pricing strategy.

(Papa’s other inventory will be on sale, as well… we have dishes, household goods, purses, loads of stuff we haven’t unpacked yet.  Most of those items will be priced below a dollar!)

Papa’s Thrift Shop to Reopen

papas-logo-header

After being closed as a separate shop for over a year (during which time it was consolidated into a section of Heritage Collectibles), Papa’s Thrift Shop will reopen soon in its previous location at 5 Park Street in Lewiston.

Last spring, in order to open Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera, we had decided to use the space at 5 Park Street for that bookstore, which was my husband John’s baby.  He loved planning and working in that little bookstore, and had almost gotten it organized to his satisfaction when he tragically died last October.

As most people know, I’ve been devastated by John’s death, and it’s taken a while to figure out what I wanted to do with the shops, and how to manage them on my own, especially since I also work full-time as a social worker.

Finally, some brainstorming with a friend and co-worker helped me sift through the various possibilities… Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera is being incorporated into the Heritage Collectibles, our antique shop at 189 Main Street (just around the corner, in the same building) which will now be known as Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps.

And Papa’s will reopen in its original location.

We hope (and I say “we” because it will always be John and me – and because frankly, I still run everything by him, even now), to re-start our Low Income Voucher Program, as well as our Affordable Furniture Service.

And we plan to have special events, such as 50% off for veterans on Veterans’ Day. Other ideas include on-going discounts for veterans, and some programs & services we haven’t fully planned out yet.

Update on Hours, including those at Papa’s Closet (the Voucher Program)

Papa's Logo & Header for WordPress

Papa’s Closet – our low income voucher program – will be open every Friday from 12:00-2:30, beginning Friday, May 20.

Individuals with vouchers should still make an appointment so we don’t have several people trying to find merchandise all at once!

Papa’s Thrift Shop, which has been incorporated into the back section of Heritage Collectibles, will be open the same hours as Heritage Collectibles, which presently are Fridays, 10-5; Saturdays, 11-5; and Sundays, 12-4.

Thank you!

More Changes at Papa’s Thrift Shop

Papa's Avatar
Good morning everyone!

Over the past several months, Johnny and I have been wrestling with how to manage Papa’s Thrift Shop. Our arts & antiques shop (Heritage Collectibles) has somewhat changed its focus because of our customers’ requests: we doubled in size and added more furniture, which is doing really well.

Given my very demanding full-time job as a social worker, I couldn’t run both Heritage Collectibles and Papa’s Thrift Shop (I’d have to lock up one shop to open the other), and John (whose job is just as demanding but with a schedule that’s far less flexible than mine) just didn’t have the time to learn and manage all the ins & outs of both shops, including Papa’s Low Income Voucher Program.   What was particularly difficult was that at our 5 Park St location, the Voucher program inventory was mixed in with regular Thrift Shop inventory, which was confusing to everyone.   (Yes, this item is free.  No, that one is not.)

We also couldn’t afford a full retail shop of just free items, yet the quality and selection of the donations we’d recently been getting didn’t really appeal to people who might make the purchases that would allow us to keep the Voucher program running from its own separate space.  As a result, we were open fewer and fewer hours as we concentrated on Heritage Collectibles.

In the meantime, Heritage Collectibles also had many requests for more books & maps, which we hadn’t been able to accommodate, even in our expanded space.

We finally came to the conclusion that Papa’s Thrift Shop – as its own unique retail space – would have to be consolidated into Heritage Collectibles at 189 Main St, and that 5 Park Street, where Papa’s was located, would become Heritage Books & Maps.  John will mostly manage the Books & Maps shop, and I’ll mostly manage Heritage Collectibles.

So, Papa’s isn’t really closing, but we’re still figuring it out.  We still have the Low Income Voucher Program (and a large closet full of free items for that Voucher program), and we expect to clear a space in the back of Heritage Collectibles for thrift shop type items.

Unfortunately, given our day jobs, this is all very slow going for which we really, really apologize.

If you’ve been in Heritage Collectibles recently, you’ve seen that we are full to the rafters (ha! if there were rafters in the shop, that is) and it’s looking pretty disorganized. However, once we’re done moving things around, Heritage Collectibles will look lovely again, Papa’s Thrift Shop will have its own space, and Heritage Books & Maps will be the “coolest little book store in town”.

Thanks for understanding!
Linda & John

Clearance at Papa’s Thrift Shop / Low Income Voucher Program

IMG_8347

We’ve recently picked up a lot of inventory that went directly into Papa’s Low Income Voucher Closet.  Some of the stuff is good quality and usable; some of it is stuff that’s just taking up space and we wish people would please-please-please take it away.  Papa’s Closet is crammed full and we really need to clear stuff out.

So, for a short time, we’ve marked down the prices of almost everything in Papa’s Closet to 10c or 25c each.  (A very few items are still their usual $1.00 to $5.00 or so.)

That means that if you’re low income and have a voucher, you could get 100 or more items with your monthly $25.00 family voucher.  (Anyone on MaineCare qualifies; even your children… we have quite a few kids toys and stuffies!)

HOLD EVERYTHING!  What if I’m not low income and want to buy things from Papa’s Closet??  Well, that’s no problem at all… we’d totally love to actually take in some money from this program, rather than giving it away!  Come on in and bring your dollar bills!  (HAHA!)

IMG_8355 IMG_8350

Take a look at the pictures, and talk to your social worker, case manager, or whomever, and make an appointment to come on in and help me clear out that closet!  (We do have plenty of plastic grocery store bags that you can use to carry things, but if you have larger cloth bags it might be a good idea to bring them!)

Most of the stuff left over after Sunday, February 21st will be donated to Goodwill or some other thrift store, so please plan to come in NOW and take it away!

NOTE: Please do not message, post or call to find out what we have.  We both have full time jobs in addition to running Heritage Collectibles, Papas’s and our soon-to-open bookstore.  We just don’t have time to respond!

LOW INCOME VOUCHER PROGRAM.
Papa’s Thrift Shop, with our Low Income Voucher Program, has made some changes to make the program work better for our customers (and for ourselves!).

We haven’t had the time to really work on soliciting the donations needed to keep the shop filled with items that can be given away, so last fall we also added in a lot of very cool products that we bought at auctions and other sales.  It made the shop wicked cute and fun!

However, that got confusing, since we had to say “Yes, this is part of the Voucher Program, but that isn’t”.  It just didn’t work out very well, but obviously we can’t give away inventory we’ve paid for.  We’d lose our shirts!  (Unless there’s someone out there willing to fund us so we become independently wealthy…. Nah.  That’s pretty unlikely to happen!)

Because we gave away a LOT of stuff last summer, our inventory for the Low Income Voucher Program had become pretty limited (although we still have quite a bit).  As a result, it made sense to move the Voucher Program inventory into a smaller space.

Luckily, that was easy to do.  We just moved Papa’s into a cute space inside Heritage Collectibles, our arts and antique shop that’s just around the corner at 189 Main Street in Lewiston.

Everything in the new Papa’s Thrift Shop is available for free to people with the Low Income Vouchers they can get from their social workers. (If your social worker doesn’t have any vouchers, or doesn’t know about the program, have him/her call Linda at 207 740 2247, or email me at Papa’sThriftShop@gmail.com.)

AFFORDABLE FURNITURE SERVICE.
Also, we know that sometimes it’s really tough to afford furniture.  And we’ve heard that if you go to one of those rental places, you end up spending megabucks over the long run. That just makes it even harder for people who are low income, or whose kids with behavioral disabilities destroy the household furniture over and over.

So we’ve been able to tag some furniture that can be purchased at a significant discount (and our prices are already pretty low compared to similar shops).

Again, you’ll have to have a referral from a case manager or social worker, but that’s a small price to pay to be able to afford the basic things every home needs such as chairs, tables, dressers, and so forth.

Please be aware that we don’t always have everything or anything in stock that you might want, and that there are many items we can’t give a discount on.

In any event, take a look at the pictures posted here, which show just a few of the items available at Papa’s through the Low Income Voucher Program, and make an appointment to come on in!   PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE WITHOUT HAVING A CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT.  Thanks!
